Introducing the Project Blue Book Archive
25 January 2005
Welcome to the Project Blue Book Archive. In brief, we have created a web-site which provides
free online access to a significant portion of the National Archives Project Blue Book microfilm
collection. Moreover, these documents have been rendered searchable so as to increase the utility of this material to
researchers. So far we have scanned and posted approximately 10% of the NARA
Blue Book microfilm collection and more content is on the way.
In addition to this online resource we are also making each roll
of microfilm we process available as a series of high-resolution (400dpi)
scans on CD-ROM for only $9.95- less than a sixth
of the cost of the microfilm itself if ordered from the NARA.
Moreover, unlike film, document scans can be enhanced with
software to increase legibility and are both easy to print and
easy to share via email with other researchers.
It is also important to note that each purchase you make will
help fund our continuing effort to make more of these important
historical documents available to researchers such as yourself.
Blue Book Archive project members include myself, Jan Aldrich,
Brad Sparks, and Tom Tulien. In addition, we've had a great deal
of help from many others including members of Project 1947, the
Sign Historical Group, the Archives for UFO Research, News and
Information Service, and CISU in Italy.
Again, I sincerely hope you will find this resource useful to
you in your research. If you have any other questions or comments
please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours Sincerely,
Rebecca Janine Wise
